Exercise 1 instructions

Exercise 1 : Creating a Story with Multiple Story Point View

In this exercise, you will create a simple ‘Change Over Time’ data story in Tableau using the Story Points feature. You will start with a Tableau workbook that has a Sheet already created, create a new story and then create a sequence of versions of the timeline with captions that form a narrative.

Instructions:

  1. Start with the workbook Lesson2_Exercise1.twbx located at the bottom of this page.
  2. Click the book icon to create a new Story in Tableau and title it Change Over Time - Spikes in Disaster Declarations
  3. Size it to 1200 x 800.
  4. Add the sheet Timeline to the first story point.
  5. You need to show multiple timeline views: from years 1953-1977, 1953-2005 and 1953-2018.
  6. Add suitable text to the Navigator tiles that explains what you see happening in each of the story points
